How to Overcome Trichotillomania with Positive Affirmations

Overcoming Trichotillomania is sadly not going to happen overnight.

You need to put in the work.

Using Positive Affirmations for Trichotillomania is something that you can do daily in the morning or evening, to help you reach your goal to stop pulling your hair out.

What is Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania is when someone compulsively pulls out their hair.

It could be you, or it could be someone you know.

1 in 20 people does it at some stage in their life. So if it is you…. you are NOT alone!!!

It is very common compared to the amount of people who have actually heard about it. The fact that it is not a well known condition adds to the stigma and embarrassment surrounding it.

Trichotillomania is very difficult to overcome, but it is possible.

It is related to Dermatillomania, the picking of skin. They are both Body Focused Repetitive Disorders (BFRBs).

Effects of Trichotillomania

The worst consequence of pulling your hair out is the bald patches that can appear.

Or maybe  someone might be missing a whole eyebrow, or set of eyelashes.

Trichotillomania can affect many aspects in your life, such as swimming, going to the hairdresser or dating, as they are too afraid that they will be discovered.

Perhaps equally bad, is the shame and guilt that goes with it.

Many people are shocked and say really unhelpful things to people with TTM.

However the shaming and guilt comes not just from others, but also from yourself!

I spent years being angry at myself for not being able to control this impulse, which is seemingly so easy to stop.

I thought I was weak, broken and weird.

I found one of the best ways to help stop pulling out my hair is self compassion and self acceptance, which is where the Positive Affirmations come in.

If you have never used Positive Affirmations before, you can read more about how and when to do them here.
