Journal prompts for childhood memories

Here are some fun and thought provoking journal prompts to help you remember your childhood memories.

We spend so much time stressed and rushing around in our busy lives that we don’t take much time for reflection on the past. Yet the path is often the key to understanding our mental health, and understanding much of how we behave today.

Sometimes we also repress memories in our childhood when certain events were too difficult for us to process and deal with emotionally. We think that we have ‘dealt’ with these events are they are so tightly locked away in your subconscious – and don’t realise that they still have a massive impact on our lives now.

I discovered one therapy session that I had blocked out many memories from my childhood. When I thought about it, I realised I didn’t remember much of my childhood at all – and the bits that I did remember seemed blurry.

Once I knew that I had forgotten almost all of my childhood memories, it frustrated me that I could not access them. That’s why I have put together these journal prompts for childhood memories – to help you if you want to try and remember more about your childhood.

These journal prompts are fun to reflect on your past and can help trigger your memory of things you have forgotten. Take the time to do a couple each journaling session as part of your mental health and self care routine. Try to remember as much as you can about how you felt, the smells, the other people and settings in as much detail as possible.
